Re: Roots music and Scalping

I know, but the two are linked. Who would notice that but me? Anyway, I was
trying to show you the evolution of the music we're talking about...obviously
Roots was a lot earlier, and for that matter "Tom" Johnson was treated a lot
better by three poor white men than any black man was ever REALLY treated
back then! But the music I cited in Roots evolved into the type of music in O
Brother. Hell, they make an OBVIOUS reference to Robert Johnson (selling his
soul to the devil at the crossroads). And you'll agree that Blues came from
Gospel, right?

What do you mean "back in the hollows?" Come to SC sometime ("Gimme that old
time religion/It's good enough for me..."! That is a combination of black
gospel (is there such a term?) and Folk. And while it doesn't sound African,
does Cars by Gary Numan sound like Blues? But it definitely CAME from Blues!

To me they don't sound Irish at all, except that they tell a story...as does
all Folk! But there were black artists doing this sort of music too, at this
time.

Kevin Mc:

Except that it would be almost impossible to do that, given the amount of
releases and places that sell them, not to mention the Internet. Not a good
analogy, much like the bread one below.
Besides, your entire argument falls apart on the making it illegal grounds.
What you're saying, as a self-proclaimed staunch Micropublican, is that since
you don't like it, it should be made illegal. And that is where your party
deviates from the intent of the founders of this country. As often as they
possibly can get away with it.

Who's Tantric?

Most of Days Of The New. All but the leader. They're one the better bands
around right now.

Jeff:

Does he have a green card?

Kevin O would want to call him names ("You, sir are
> not playing fair!") and would refuse to buy anything from him.

And he would be doing the proper thing. Making it illegal...when has that
ever solved anything? Never! It just makes things go underground.

Keets:

Why? Can't people live without Pepperidge Farm Cinnamon Swirl bread? If both
parties agree, where's the harm? Give me one solid reason why it should be
made illegal...because that's about the size of this scalper debate. "I don't
like it so it should be illegal." There's a LOT of things I don't like, but
I'm not out to make anything illegal...because it's SUPPOSED to be a free
country!!!
