Actually, I get the impression that Pete was shocked and bothered.

There have been some comments on other lists about this interview and a bit 
of discussion on the Pete Townshend list, and everybody seems to be getting 
about the same things out of it.  It seems Pete expected to be doing just 
another promotional interview and the guy bushwhacked him with this 
assertion and Pete reacted.  It starts off sounding somewhat peevish, like 
Pete's tired of answering the same questions over and over, and then he gets 
pissed about the sexuality thing.  Regardless of the jokes, I don't think 
Pete has ever believed he's had a serious homosexual encounter, and Heath 
made it sound that way.  Notice Fields actually says not.

However, Pete got his revenge.  How could they know John would pass within 
days of this stunt?  When RS really wanted an interview, they were shut out.
