Pop star Paul Weller has been arrested and questioned in connection
with a rape alleged to have taken place four years ago, it has been
reported.
The former Jam star, 42, was quizzed by Surrey Police and later
released on police bail.

A police spokeswoman said: "We have received an allegation of rape
which is alleged to have happened in Farnham at the end of 1996.

"A 42-year-old man has been arrested to help us with our inquiries and
has been released on police bail."

The alleged victim was a 36-year-old woman, believed to be from
Streatham, south London.

Millionaire Weller shot to fame with The Jam in the 1970s and 1980s and
later went on to have a string of hits with the Style Council before
achieving success as a solo artist.
