Ahhh, dishing out homework assignments are we????????? ;-)
Well, ok, I'll throw some thoughts out there.
I've gone-on once already regarding Zak vs. Keith. My thinking hasn't
changed here. Zak is great, but he's no Keith Moon. I don't know if it's
fair, but when I do a comparison, I use LAL Keith. Keith just had that
extra gear. Actually, more importantly, he had a plan. Rolls would just
flow, and you'd find yourself thinking "he's not going to try and
do........." (like you could hear the story, and know where he was going)
and before you can think the entire thought, he'd already have done it.
You're left with your jaw hanging open.

Don't ask me to say anything negative about Kenney. I value my friendship
with Scott. ;-) Plus, I agree with him 100%. And, I think he'd agree
that Kenney was no Keith Moon either.

Now, Pete.........hmmmmmmmm, what can be said about Pete's playing..?????
Well, really, he's proving that with age comes wisdom. He's like a fine
wine that is simply getting better with age. It makes sense doesn't it??
I liked the thought offered by Mike (I believe) that the acoustic doesn't
provide for the type of "release" that the electric does. But, it sure does
make you a better guitar player. He's on top of his game.
What I find myself thinking when I listen to him is that I'm glad he still
is using feedback in the way only Pete can. Feedback is a lost art form. I
thank the Who Gods that Pete, the master of feedback, is putting it back on
the map where it belongs. It's like a worm-hole to the soul. You can't
explain it, it just has some sort of primal, very to the core, thing about
it. Only James Marshall and Pete could really use it right (IMHO, bla, bla,
bla, leave me alone).
One last thought. I really believe that Pete is again staking his claim as
one of the greatest guitar players, ever. It's kind of like "in case you've
forgotten, I can still play damn-it!" He's definitely getting allot of
acclaim and praise these days. That, a successful tour, a new album, and a
follow up tour still as a 5-piece doing their new album is what will launch
The Who back into the old day debate of "who's #1?".

Ever wonder how this new album will be marketed? Will it try and go for the
larger audience, like Carlos? Or, will it be a subtle distribution (no
way)?
I doubt it will be subtle. It already feels like it's one of the most
anticipated albums in Rock today, and it's not even a guaranteed thing yet.

Aaaaaahhhhhaaaahahah. Great minds thinking alike. It's a scary thing.
The times that I get shivers, or get goose bumps, or let out that "I want to
throw a FUCKING CHAIR!" primal scream, are the result of Pete's message from
his guitar. He can flat out ef'n move you.

BTW. I talked about this before, the chair tossing thing. I highly
reccomend it. Every person reading this should at least one time in their
lives catch a really rowdy buzz, by what ever means you prefer, and then jam
some Young Man Blues, or something like that. At high volume. Then, let
go, and wreck the place.
Do it!
Scream while you're doing it! Toss a chair! Knock over a lamp!
If you do it to deck furniture, like me, it'll keep costs down. :-)
But really, how will you ever know, or get at least close to knowing how it
feels, until you let go and toss??? Experience that feeling! Break your
own guitar!

He knows who to follow. He also knows who'll be really pissed if he
doesn't.

I've been thinking about this too. There really is no doubt, what so ever
anymore, as to who the lead in the group is. After Keith, it seemed as if
Pete wasn't ready or didn't have the energy for the spot light. But now, a
bit older and wiser and more confident, he's taken the lead and looks like
he wants to keep running with it right to the top. It's always been up to
Pete. "Hey, when's The Who gonna tour again, eh?"
"Ask Pete."
Now that Pete is ready, look out.
He's all serious. He's guiding every move the band makes on stage. He's
calculating. He's into it.
Praise be to The Who Gods!

Life is funny. So many stops and starts, and turns.
Who would have thought Who land would be treating us so well these days.

Scccreeeeeeeeeeeetchhh (sound of feedback from a bull horn).
"OK KEETS, PUT DOWN THE WOODEN SPOON, AND COME OUT WITH YOUR HANDS UP!"
"WE'VE GOT THE PLACE SURROUNDED!"
"YOUR POT-STIRRING DAYS ARE OVER!"
;-)

Stay in Tune,
Kevin
