Who Are Gateway?

   Hey Who fans.
Just had to share my latest stomach-turning television experience with
y'all. Gateway is using "Who Are You" in one of their commercials, just
thought i'd warn you, you'll see it soon enough. i think a rant here about
how coporate greedy bastards stealing legitimite artwork for the purpose of
hawking their products (which appearantly can't sell themselves without
associating themselves with something inherently good) .... okay i'll stop.
i was going to say a rant like that here would fall on sympathetic ears, but
make no difference. Let me just be the first to point out this latest
corporate injustice to us, the fans. We all caught "Can't Explain" in a
recent car ad, and many Who songs have been used in movie ads lately. It
seems to me that if Nike came out with the infamous "Revolution" commercial
today instead of fifteen years ago that people wouldn't bat an eye. In fact,
i'd be willing to bet putting "Imagine" in an ad for, say, beer, wouldn't
even warrant a comment outside of these internet groups. There are worse
things in the world, i know, but it sickens me to see artist's work used in
this way, especially when the law doesn't really protect works of art
anymore. As long as its less than thirty seconds and you pay the standard
royalty fee, anything goes. At least that's the way it is in the U.S. Sigh.
i think i'll go listen to "Sell Out" again, and try not to think about it...

My heart is like a broken cup, I only feel right on my knees
I spit out like a sewer hole yet still receive your kiss
How can I measure up to anyone now after such a love as this?" -- pete,
