Im sorry but Lou Reed was NOT the velvet underground. Each individual band
member shaped each of Lou's compositions. According to "Transformer-The Lou
Reed Story".If Lou never hooked up with the members who came to be known as
the Velvet Underground, then he would of sounded more like a Bob Dylan
"Clone".If you own a copy of "peel slowly and see" box set than you would
notice that lou's songs sound folky and like country blues.(even with john
cale's viola hum)these demos are from disc one. they all sound utterly
diffrent from what u would be used to from the velvets, lou started out
playing harmonica and acoustic guitar mainly. obviously youve never read the
story of how the velvets started. you dont know john cale's roots in the
"avant garde". his work with La Monte Young or his idea of making a viola
sounding like a "train wreck". John bought those avant garde sensibilities to
the band.Moe Tucker liked African Drumming along with Charlie Watts ,she used
that style in the band.Sterling Morrison ,well he played lead and rythum to
double lou. he also played solos that i love.See, the other members of the
band brought their unusual styles and sensibilities to the band. they shaped
all the songs that would become"velvet underground and nico". and every VU
song after that. there was one time when Doug Yule WAS the velvet underground.
