Re: girl power

First of all, I say the reason that Plant & Page's single only sold 1500
copies because it stank to high heaven (so high, most high, blah blah blah
POOP). Zeppelin fans don't want to listen to an old Plant and an old,
extremely bloated Page crank out some half-assed song. Zeppelin is a 70's
thing that should never had survived to see a new album. Touring was fine,
I mean who wouldn't want to see members of Zeppelin 20 years after Bonham's
death, but the quality of the music is sub-average compared to "Kashmir".
I would have to say that the 1.5 million people that bought "Come With Me"
bought it for the guitar music (it's very catchy) and because Puff Daddy is
really cool in the cul-de-sac crowd, not because of the novelty of listening
to one of the greatest guitarists ever. After all, Plant said it was
Kashmir that he wanted Zeppelin to be remembered for, not Stairway. I mean,
it's a fabulous song, coupled with a very marketable (but CRAPPY) rapper, so
it's bound to sell a lot of copies.
As far as rock being dead, I know of a few (TOO few) artists that carry
the torch. Dave Matthews Band (I don't like them at all, they're frat rock,
but very talented), Pearl Jam, Ben Harper, the now-defunct Soundgarden,
Metallica, Sublime in their prime, 311, and that's about all I can think of.
Of course, it is true that bland rock is king (Goo Goo Dolls, Third Eye
Blind, Matchbox 20), but there is still a lot of talent out there that could
get a huge audience in the younger generation, because right now we're fed
up with the crap on MTV. At least, I hope so.
