This is how I remember it, too. So what's his problem? Why doesn't he
just go ahead and remix the tapes? Then he could offer them redone, and
perhaps Polydor will accept them. Who can say what sort of job he'd do
these days? I can see why Polydor might hedge.
If Polydor doesn't buy the remixed tapes, he could then distribute them
elsewhere (I guess; there may be some legal reason why he can't).
Castle, or perhaps Rhino, would be happy to get them I think.
By not remixing now, it seems that the money is the most important
factor to him...he ain't a-gonna do the work until he sees the cash.
He's already gotten a LOT of (IMHO) undeserved money from The Who's
work.
I also recall that MCA was willing to meet the price but Polydor wasn't.
A pity.
