Re: What's that smell?

I find the area around MSG and Penn Station (Herald Square) to be
quite unpleasant. Echoing what Litgo said, the smell is a combination of
the river, garbage, organic waste, and poor personal
hygiene--sniiiiiiiiiiif--aah. The summer heat heightens this effect.
However, there are many places in Manhattan that are cleaner, and um,
nicer. I don't live in Manhattan, but I live in Queens. It's close enough
to go to Manhattan whenever I want, but far enough away to have clean air
and trees around me. Living close to LaGuardia airport, I have a different
problem to deal with: noise pollution. But, like what Dan Ackroyd said in
The Blues Brothers about the constant trains going by his window, it
happens "so often, you don't even notice it." I think most NYers have a
love/hate relationship with their city, a relationship I share. L.A. on
the other hand...don't get me started!
                                                                        Stacey.
