Magic Bus alternate version
Greetings. I was wondering if anybody had heard of a Spanish import
issued by Polydor called "Gigantes del Pop Vol. 2" I have this on
cassette, and I got it in the bargain bin about ten years ago for about two
bucks. It's dated 1981 and is part of a series of greatest hits albums.
Vol. 2 happens to be the Horrible WHO, but the insert lists around fifty
different volumes, including Vol. 15, Roger Daltrey. The quality of this
tape is somewhat low for a legitimate studio issue (as opposed to a
bootleg), but it is in stereo and is very listenable.
Anyway, it's the same thing as Meaty Beaty (minus "The Seeker" and "I'm A
Boy"), but it has a version of "Magic Bus" that I've not heard anywhere
else. There are a few differences with the version we're all familiar
with:
1. It's longer, 4:28, as opposed to 3:15
2. Roger is singing a couple of octaves higher, and the whole song
is done at a faster tempo.
3. This version includes the lines "Give me a hundred, I won't take
under, etc." and "Think how much you'll save, you caaan't have it."
4. There's also much more background hollering, and the electric guitar
is more prominent.
I happen to like this alternate version better because it's very high
energy. I imagine the group didn't release this one because it was a
little on the long
side. Has anybody heard/heard of this version on boots or anywhere else? Just
wondering...
