Re: A dream collaboration.....

} WHO should collaborate with Pete? Let's see..........
} ...
}
} Chrissie Hynde? One of my all-time favorite female rockers.
}
Didn't she "collaborate" with the Kinks' Ray Davies a while ago??!

}
} George Harrison? A new rock opera with religious overtones, entitled Hare
} Krishna Meher Baba.
}
Yeah, but would George want to, after the Who put "She's So Fine" on the
soundtrack album for TKAA??!

} ...
}
} John Lee Hooker? A real roots effort, maybe. I like that idea.
}
"Hooker 'n' Who"--the sequel to "Hooker 'n' Heat"??!?

I'd never really thought Pete was into blues all that much, even if the
Who did Young Man Blues (in a *very* non-bluesy way), and also a Sonny
Boy Williamson song on whatever the heck album it was ... Course, he
*was* a big fan of Booker T & the MGs ("Pete Townshend--I must remember
that!").

}
} Pete T. as the new Travelling Wilbury? He could show those guys a thing or two
} about strumming an acoustic guitar.
}
But he can't do that killer warbly falsetto! (Well, not many can.) Who'd
he be, "Tommy" Wilbury, the banjo-playing brother?

}
} Elvis Costello? LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOOOOOVE IT!!!
}
Yeah, but Elvis has been doing all that crossover stuff lately--maybe he
should sign up for the role of Tommy on Broadway?!

}
} Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe? With Pete they could reform Rockpile!!!!!!!
}
Arf, arf, arf!! Good one! (Like Pete's not going to tour with the Who,
but he'll join someone else's band.)

}
} Bruce Springsteen? Nah..................
}
"The Punk meets the Boss?" "I'm One" b/w "She's the One"? (Yah! Killer!)

}
} The Stones: Pete DID sing backup on "Slave" from 1981's Tattoo You album.
} Maybe a return engagement?!?!?!?!?!?!?
}
Jeez, just think how much the tickets would cost if the Stones and the Who
toured together... (Not to mention how powerful your binoculars would have
to be to see the stage.)

}
} R.E.M.? A natural collaboration, this has lots of potential. Get out that
} Rickenbacker, Pete!!!
}
Hmm, R.E.M.--"Dreaming from the Waist"? And all the Rickenbackers got broken!

}
} Paul McCartney? Although Pete played guitar on Paul's song "Angry" from 1986's
} Press To Play CD, and he and Macca are good friends, I think that both men are
} so into their own shit that it couldn't be a truly collaborative effort.
} One of them would have to run the show, not both.
}
This seems to imply that Pete couldn't collaborate with anyone not into Pete's
shit, which is a bit much, je pense. And Paul has certainly got a history of
being able to collaborate, with one person, at least! It may be more likely
that Paul is just too damned _rich_ to *give* a shit! (Couldn't happen to a
nicer guy!)

}
} Just a few ideas, to get everybody thinking......
}
Hey, I spend much of my leisure time trying *not* to think too much.
