"Idiot" brake light isn't working... why?

I was informed this morning by a co-worker that my third "idiot" brake light doesn't (light, that
is). I'll peruse the Bentley tonight but if anyone knows really quick how to troubleshoot and/or
repair, I'd appreciate it!

P.S. - anyone know where I can find a list of differences for each year of the A3's production? Like
certain years had 11" rotors, others had 11.3", some have a wide idiot brake light, etc.
