believe it or not, one very common problem is the door latch. On the piller, the latch has a tubular rubber piece. Put some oil on it so the oil gets behind the rubber piece. WHile it seems impossible, this is often the noise, and mine needs oil about every 6 months; more than one Jetta has this...apparently, the latch just rattles on the latch pin!!!!!!!!!!!
