Yeah. It's from Radio Shack. One of those $5.00 ones. DPDT contacts rated at
a couple amps and a 12VDC coil. I've got the part numbers and a simple
circuit diagram somewhere at home. I'll look for it and get back to you.

Brian,

Any more details on the relay you used? Radio Shack product?

I'm re-posting a message I posted a couple years ago regarding my solution
to the DRL problem on my '98 A3 Jetta. I doubt that the wiring would have
changed much on the A4's.

Jeff:

I'm forwarding you an old message from the list that showed a real easy way
to disable the DRLs. I tried it and it worked very well. [see original
message from Bryan Purdy below]

Then, I went a step further. My wife believes in DRLs so I wanted to have
them come on automatically when you start the car, like when she's driving,
but be able to disable them manually. I used a small DPDT relay and wired up
a simple circuit to allow me to push a hidden button to turn off the DRLs.
The relay locks on, keeping the DRLs off, and also lights a small reminder
LED which I recessed in the air vent on the driver's side so only the driver
sees it. When you turn off the car, the relay re-sets. Basically, all I'm
doing is switching the little YELLOW wire (wire # 15) on the back of the
light switch. It works great! I can have the DRLs off if I choose to and my
wife can never say "someone pulled out in front of me because you had the
damn DRLs disabled."

Much easier way is to pull the relay out entirely. It will disable the DRL's
completely as well as
the lamp that lights up when your e-brake is on (they're tied together). I'm
afraid I can't say for
sure what number the A4 uses; perhaps someone else on the list knows?

Here's a question about headlights for a 2000 Jetta. I installed Xenon
bulbs from Eurolights about 15 months ago and one just burned out. A little
short in my opinion, but then I realized they are on all the time for the
daytime running lights. Does anyone out there know how to possibly defeat
the daytime running lights so my bulbs will last longer?

Thanks,
AJ
