Re: High oil temps...

Yeah, mine doesn't usually even hit 230 unless I hit 6000rpm on a warm day :-)

It did make it all the way up to 236 doing 85mph for 90 minutes with 2 passengers and the A/C on
with an ambient of about 98º outside. 'Course, this was the day after a 15W50 + Militec-1 oil
change...

I agree that a stuck thermostat could be the culprit; they're not too hard to change out yourself,
but you DO have to drop the coolant, so I'd wait to flush it until after you've changed it. The
thermostat itself should be pretty cheap, but you should also get all new o-rings for the housing
(there's a few) to avoid leaks when the weather cools.

Anyway, good luck with the animal!

I am not mechanically inclined but I hope this helps. I had the same problem
recently and took my vehicle to the dealer several times. First they told me
it was the ignition cylinder the car electronically was always turning over,
so they replaced it under warranty, not the problem. Then they flushed the
coolant system, not the problem. Come to find out the thermostat was stuck
so they replaced it and the problem has been gone since. My 97 GLX was not
getting to 280 the highest it reached was 268, on a normal 70 degree day at
65mph. Trust me it was the most frustrating two weeks of my life with my car
in the shop all but 1 day. Since then one of the fans come on as soon as the
A/C is turned on but even then my car doesn't reach more than 228 in Los
Angeles sitting in bumper to bumper traffic for more than an hour with the
A/C on the entire time.

I've had Mobil 1 15-50 since 5k, 252 is the highest I've ever seen, and
that was with 4 people and a trunk full of luggage on a 100 degree
day. I've got 139k now. Usually it runs about 225.
