RE: Question for you all

I would agree. It seems more likely that a coolant blockage or thermostat
problem would be the cause. Even though we don't like dealers, I doubt they
could screw up that bad. But then again......

I don't see how oil would affect your coolant that much, but in a 97 GLX it
should be no higher than
190-ish (whatever straight up is), and your oil should be no higher than
maybe 210-215 unless you're
REALLY revving it in Phoenix in July :-) Highway driving never takes mine
over 208 unless I'm having
a little fun, then it's hit 212-218.

I would find out what oil that is that they put in and see if it's THAT out
of spec for the car (I
just don't believe that they could get that bad of oil in there... unless
it's like lawnmower or
something!). You might also see about your coolant system (maybe it's
clogged) and your thermostat.
You can test the thermostat by feeling one of the main big radiator hoses
and see if, at operating
temperature, the hose is hot. It should be. If it isn't, your thermostat
could be stuck or you have
a blockage (that's what the Bentley says, anyway).

Hope my two bits helps! Good luck David!

First let me say I have no mechanical history or knowledge so any help would
be appreciated. I have a 97 Jetta GLX VR6 and I have added the P-Flo System
and Neuspeed P-Chip. I recently brought the vehicle to the dealer for an oil
change and to look into the airbag light that keeps coming on. I get the
vehicle back and since have had these following problems. The oil
temperature keeps rising to 256-260 degrees, the temperature of the car
rises above 230 degrees, the fans come on and keep running non-stop until
the vehicle is shut off and now as of yesterday the air conditioner blows
out warm air. I called the dealer this morning and he says this is normal
for VR6's, but this never happened before until now. I have made another
appointment to bring in the car for this evening so anything I can say to
the dealer would be of help.
