Fuel Additives

Has anyone out there ever used fuel additives. I have a automatic
GLX and the shifting on it has become very irregular. It revs
real high before getting into 1st gear and the same for 2nd.
When I am driving and want to accelerate and push on the gas
pedal the engine revs up high as well. I am due for my tuneup.
Any recommendations for spark plugs. I am also planning on getting
my oil change too and will go with synthetic this time again
what brands should I use or stay away from. Hopefully by getting
my tuneup all these problems will go away. 

Also will the dealership give me grief if I request for synthetic
oil and use a different spark plugs that they use?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
