Radio Reception / FUBA amplified or not?

I recently installed a Blau Alaska Stereo in my '94 GLX.  I've read really good 
things about the Digiceiver radio reception, that's the reason I picked it (and 
the price).  But it actually has worse reception than my factory "Premium 
Audio" HU.  I did wire the antenna power on the metra harness.  Some people say 
that the early GLX FUBA ('94 & '95) are amplified and require power, others say 
they aren't and need an external antenna amplifier.  Anyone have any insight or 
a similar experience?
