strut tops

Hello list people,
I went to get my oil change this morning, and as they were doing it, the
service manager came out and told me that my strut tops were shot, and
they should be replaced soon.  I thought about how much mileage i have
on my car(about 41500)  and was wondering if this was unususal.  Any
feedback would be good. If any of you had these replaced, could you also
tell me how much it cost you, the dealer is quoting me 260 or so.
