Schrick VGI *SAVE YOURSELF * READ THIS!!

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO PAY FOR AN ENGINE REBUILD
READ THIS. My VGI dropped an allen bolt into
the engine destroying my #4 cylinder,
piston, & valves. Here's the deal. Inside
the middle runner section of your VGI
is a throttle plate similar to the throttle
body. A shaft runs across the VGI with a plate
attached by two allen bolts. Below 4000 rpms
the shaft/plate is closed.. above 4000 rpms the
shaft/plate opens. The front of the
shaft is in the soft aluminum of the VGI, over time
the shaft vibrates and augers out the pocket it sits
in... the shaft then vibrates even more... loosening the
allen bolts. In my case one bolt came loose, the
throttle plate detached, broke the shaft were the
second allen bolt is.. and sent one on the allen bolts
into my #4 cylinder.
IF YOU HAVE A VGI INSPECT THE FRONT OF THIS SHAFT AND
CHECK THE TOLERANCE AROUND IT. IF IT'S LOOSE CALL THE
DISTRIBUTOR YOU PURCHASED IT FROM AND E-MAIL ME
ejcasey@mediaone.net with your contact information..
My manifold is one it's way to Germany for inspection
by Schrick.. I'm trying to have them change the design
to include a bushing around the shaft to keep this from
occurring to other VWs.

Please excuse the long post.. but if it saves one engine
(or someone else a lot of aggravation and $3000) it was worth
the bandwidth.

Best Regards,
