new car...

heya all...

finally got my car this weekend. the plan had always been to get a jetta.
last week i decided i wanted an atlantic blue glx with black interior. has
to be automatic cos i'm a fool and can't drive a standard.

anyway, this car is impossible to find in houston...didn't feel like going
through the trouble of going to arlington to get one, so i went through the
steps of reserving one that was on the way in from the factory (but bound
for a different dealer). i was kinda disappointed that i wouldn't be able
to take a car home with me, but i was really pumped about sealing the
deal...especially since there was one just like what i wanted at the
dealership (momentum) and it was gorgeous. so anyway, i went in there with
printouts from all over the place, determined to get the best deal. i
ended up walking out over about $250, pretty much in the hopes that i'd get
a callback a couple days later.

then i went looking all over houston for a black/black one to no avail. at
this point i'm getting pretty tired and ready to go home, but my parents
(first new car, wanted the foagies around for help negotiating) were
determined to see me spend all my money. soooo...i went to a dealership
across town. out front is the indigo blue/black leather passat GLX 4motion
i drove about a month before. i was sooooo set on a jetta, but i fell
right back in love with that passat.

six thousand extra dollars later, it's sitting in the garage. so far, more
than worth it. my experience, in one word: omigawd! still miss the jetta,
though. maybe i'll get lucky soon.

anyway, i bought from archer dodge(eew)/VW in houston; my salesman was
carlos (sorry, can't remember his last name). hard to understand, but a
nice guy...showed me their invoice for the car, and we agreed on a price
that was fair for both of us (it was actually an awful lot less than i
expected to pay...i think it ended up being about $400 over invoice). no
bickering over $500 spoilers and $400 CD players. i said $300, $300, $150
(spoiler, cd, window tint) and he said okay without any negotiations. i
was impressed, and i'd definitely recommend him. i'd also like to put in a
good work for lamont alford at momentum VW as well, cos he was such a nice
guy.

anyway, i've got some pics if anybody wants to see them. =)

back to lurker mode..
