Deleting daytime running lights...

I made my first mod to my 2000 Jetta last night!  I disconnected the daytime 
running lights.  I'm sure I'll save on bulb life now.  My only question now 
is ... is there any way to cruise around with just my parking lights on?  As 
of now, it's just one turn of the switch that makes the parking lights and 
headlights come on.  However, if the key is out of the ignition.. then only 
the parking lights come on.  As soon as you put the key in and turn, the 
headlights go on.  Can I drive around with just parking lights?
