Officially the SP9000 is the replacement. In Tire Rack testing, the 9000 had
better wet performance (the 8000 isn't bad), and likely better tread life,
but wasn't quite as quick around the track.

Hmm...but you were told that the 5000s are a replacement for the 8000s?
If the 8000s are going away, is there a true summer tire to replace them?
