I've taken my car onto the Autocross track. I'm of German descent,
and I'm 6'2". Daily driving, my sunroof liner is always open.
Otherwise, you're right, I'd touch the liner with my head.

The only way I could do the autocross with the helmet was to open the
back end of the sunroof, and tilt my head so the top of the helmet
would fit in there.

Finally, without the helmet, with the liner open, I can just barely
avoid touching the liner. If I was 6'3" it would be down right
uncomfortable.

The Jetta GL/GLS (A3) on the other hand, has different (non sport)
seats which sit about an inch lower (I don't have that problem in the
GL). Also, the sun roof makes the biggest difference. A GL without a
sunroof (pretty rare, actually) has about two more inches of headroom.
