I have a '97 GLX VR-6 with the 5 speed and I have noticed the same problem 
as you noted. I have 35K miles on mine and I am still running petroleum in 
the tranny. But mine does not lock up. It acts like it wants to lock up 
though. It shifts VERY hard into third. I have noticed it gets really bad 
when I take an aggressive corner.

I was thinking about dropping a short shift kit in and maybe some 
polyurethane mounts and seeing what happens then.

Does anyone else have any suggestions?
