Ok, just because I didn't have to work yesterday doesn't mean that the VR6
could take the day off too, right? I drove my Jetta yesterday and it seemed
really slow to me. This morning, however, she was back to her perky self.
Anyone else have this happen to them? Know why it happened?

These lights came on recently on my wife's '95 GLX
We changed the battery, and now the airbag light remains on, and the ABS
light sometimes stays on, sometimes not.
The pads, disks and brake fluid are fine. No apparent damage to the
sensors.
Any BTDT would be very helpful.

Maybe the engine was creating it's own fireworks -- the plug wires were
arcing to happier places. It's calmed down now.

I called Velocity Sport Tuning today and told them of the problem.
Interestingly they said that they had had a similar case previously.
Chris there was very professional and did not hesitate to say that they
would get a new one on its way to me and proceed with a claim against
Bilstein.

Top of rear shock shaft broke off at the bottom of the allen key insert
while I was tightening it (hence the BF&I question). I was using a standard
allen key and combination wrench at the time and not putting what I consider
(IMHO) to be excessive torque on the nut. Access is sufficiently awkward as
to make it somewhat difficult to overtighten the nuts unless one has a
purpose made tool.
For those not familiar with the Bilsteins their rears have the same
arrangement as the stock front shock shafts to enable one to hold the shaft
still while loosening the various nuts that hold everything in place.
Still more than enough thread remains, but disconcerting with what I have
always thought of as the premier shock product. Velocity believes that they
will have no difficulty in getting Bilstein to replace it.
