I just did mine with the plastic tool and they came out ok. Just go smoothly
make sure they're seated properly  and don't yank too hard.

BTW Last Sat an idiot in a van NYC backs into my car hits the headlight  end
result the retainer bracket is broken. Happy New Year... Not!

Go to the dealer the freaking pos piece of plastic is almost $50 bucks!
