VR6 Dyno Test
Some friends and I went down to TechnoDyne in Tempe Arizona today to see
exactly what our cars are made of. We were all amazed at the street legal
Toyota Supra that unleashed over 800 Horses. They had to sit 2 guys on the
back of the car because the tires were actually spinning on the dyno. For
those of you that don't know the process of running a car on a dyno. They
put the car in 4th gear and once at 2,000 RPM, they punch it and don't let
off until the car redlines. So, imagine this 800 horse powered Supra
spinning the tires in 4th gear. That's a lot of power!
Anyway, to make a long story short. I ran my car (97 GLX) and found that it
is pushing 162.9 horses at the wheel and 162.2 torque at the wheel. Comes
out to around 192 horse at the flywheel. The horse power peaks at about
5,700 RPM and then begins to drop off. The torque peaks at about 4,200 RPM
and keeps pulling until about 5,200 and begins to drop after that. All in
all, I am pretty happy with the results. The only mods I have made to the
car is a chip, K&N air filter and replaced the mid muffler with a straight
pipe. What this translates to in the 1/4 mile is 15.01 at 92 MPH. I ran
these times at my most recent visit at the strip.
Anyway, just thought I would share these numbers with you guys. I have not
seen any numbers posted anywhere with the same mods I have made. Hope you
are all doing well. Have a great Holiday :)
Take Care,
Justin
