My experience with bad w/b is that they howl like mad at speed, howl becomes 
more low-pitched as you slow down, and quiets down when the affected bearing 
is loaded, as in a turn. Grab the wheel while it's up in the air on a jack, 
and see if there's any lateral play. If there is, that's a good sign of 
bearing failure.
