Actually, plenty of cars will match up to the utilitarian Jetta.
Even though I despise Fords, I think that the Focus is probably
just as apt and agile as the new Jetta.  I am not convinced that 
there is anything 'better' in the Jetta, either.  But we are not talking
VR6, that would be apples to oranges.  Then again, there is probably
a way to get the Ford 4cyl to match up, so maybe it isn't.  

There are plenty of cars crafted for 'pride' - the jetta isn't one of them.
wonderful that you love your car, but the designers did not have luxury,
speed, and distinct beauty in mind for the Jetta.  I think those guys were
on the team working on the A6.  Or the TT.  Or over at Porsche...  
Grocery bags and car seats were more in mind for the Jetta.

Just because there aren't people tuning Saturns doesn't mean they can't
be.  VW has the privilidge of being German.  There are hundreds of cars
that are above and beyond, end of story.
