Although the numbers show it to be about as quick as my VR6, it just feels
to have ample power to spare at all times. The auto Tranny (curse them!) is
so silky, it feels as though there's only one gear - shifts are
imperceptible. Why couldn't they put a manual in there? I know they will for
the CLK55 AMG, but come on! The 3.2 & 4.3 engines have plenty of juice. >
Apples to Oranges. Different types of cars, aimed at a different class of
buyers. And for the price of the CLK, not to mention the AMGs, it damn sure
better be "all that".
< Suffice it to say, I can't wait for the day (SOON!) that I will be able to
afford an M3. Manual tranny, quiet, SOLID interior. An exterior design that
is beyond reproach. A reputation of racing perfection, and a technically
marvelous engine - nearly 50% more power than a VR6, and more fuel efficient
to boot. Oh, soon. >>
I just can't get behind the M3 fan club thing, or the BMW thing as a whole.
They may be fine cars, and probably *are* better than the GLX, but I see too
many examples of who I *don't* want to be associated with driving them. Seems
like (and this is strictly MY OPINION) when you start driving a BMW, you turn
into a pompous prick. Sorry if this offends, but that's the way I see it. I'm
perfectly happy with my GLX, and to be honest, I'm happy driving my wore-out
A2, as well. Squeaks/rattles can annoy, but if they bothered me THAT much,
I'd take the door panels, etc. apart and isolate them.
I guess I'm just happy with what I have.
