continuing problem

Ok. This is the third time this car has been in the shop for the same thing.
What happens is my odometer and clock start to dim. The airbag and ABS
lights come on. No check engine light at all. Then the radio starts to get
quieter. The last thing that happens is the car finally quits on me. I can
sit there for about 10- 15 minutes and wait for the battery to charge back
up again and then start it and drive for another mile or so until it does it
again. I have got 2 new alternators so far (only paid for the first one),
and now it's in for another one. Any ideas on this? Anyone had this happen
to them? I'm thinking that there is a short somewhere that is putting a
strain on the alternator and it finally just quits. The shop is thinking it
might be that the battery is draining so the alternator is working too hard.
He is charging the battery to see if it is leaking at all. I just bought it
last year so I'm hoping it's not that. Anybody have any ideas? Beuller?
