RE: VR6 fuel question

87 (regular) is all that is required without an aftermarket chip. The
computer will advance the timing somewhat (more power) if you run higher
octanes. I can't swear to it, but I'm starting to believe that the
off-throttle cut-out isn't quite as dramatic with super.

If you're getting it from a VW dealer, insist that they provide you with
copies of the manuals (easily available from VWOA), and a copy of the
service record would be good as well (also available from VWOA). If not from
a VW dealer, contact VWOA, or a dealer to see if you can get those items.

Subject: VR6 fuel question

I'm a soon to be owner of a '97 Jetta GLX and had one
fairly large question that probably has been answered
a million times. What is the recommended fuel octane
in the owners manual for the VR6? I would normally
look in the car that I am getting, but the dealer
swipped the books out of it.

Thanks for the info on this and sorry to those who
have probably seen this question asked a million times
before. :)

David
Soon to be Jetta owner.
