Pros/cons of airbox fix

 I have read lots about the removal of the airbox prescreen and wanted to
know what the pros (read many of them) and the cons were of this mod. I
think it makes sense, but wonder if the engineers maybe placed it in there
to modify the air turbulence so it enters the engine more smoothly. I am
equating this to motorcycles that (mostly) use carbs, and the way the air
enters the engine is just as important as the volume. Anyways, any insight
to the pros/cons of this so I can decide if I want to remove the screen
would be appreciated.
