The peak torque is at 4200 rpms, but the important thing really is the
torque curve.   A standard VR6 has 80% of its torque available between 2000
and 6000 rpms. The VR6 never drops below 90% of its torque between 3000 and
6000rpms.  The ideal shift point in drag racing usually is where the engine
will not fall out of its power band in the next gear, while taking advantage
of it in the current gear.  By looking at the above numbers, 6000rpms is a
good shift point.  Keep in mind that this does not take into account gear
and final drive ratios, which play a very important part in drag racing.
