Auto trans

I recently took my 94 GLX to the dealer to check the automatic trans. It
seemed to slip on the very first shift after putting it in drive in the
morning (the only time it would do it). The dealer said everything looked fine
and they reprogrammed the computer (possible shift patterns being off) and
they told me I needed to service my trans because of the synthetic fluid and
it looked dirty yadda yadda yadda. Is this a common thing on the autos? Also,
the valve is going out on the central locking system (the door locks move
slow). Is this easy to fix or should I have the dealer do it? Thanks.
