I have both a NB and a 97 GLX and I have not had a single problem with either. With the exceeption of the gear shift thing flying off.

The only problem I've had with the beetle, is the little plastic doo-hickey
(getting technical ;) )with the gear numbers, which snaps onto the shifters.
pops off, and FLIES across the car.

the Jetta, on the other hand:

1) A/C vent is broken from factory
2) switch on dash to roll up/down LeftRear window
3) Gas cap cover sunk in about 1/2"
4) car pulls to the left when driving
5) all the outer door handles are VERY loose, except for drivers door
6) Sunroof "sticks"
7) noisy shifting from 2-3, and has actually slipped out of 3rd a few times.

this is just off the top of my head. there's more, i'm just kinda' too
pissed
at it to remember. I expected a car for $23K window to be better. It drives
REALLY nice, and has lots of power, but...

What's your opinion of the GLX? And any positive changes in the past years?
what about the new Passat?
