If you want to go and spend 35-45k on a car just to get status be my guest. 
I'd rather take that kind of money and get me a fortified Audi S4 or TT soon
to come to these shores with Quattro.  I think BMW's and the M3 is in for a
few surprises...... 
Just for the record, the M3 is a great car but if it's not properly driven it's 
a crime.... a while back I was coming off the highway and bumped into an M3 in
front of me going down an exit ramp. I saw him looking in his rear view
mirror at 
me and he then proceeds to slow down real slow. At first I thought what's
this guy 
doing but finally after slowing to a crawl (10MPH with a line of cars behind
me up the ramp)I decided this was enough of this jerk. Normally I'm a very
patient person and don't pay attention to the jerks we meet up with on the
highway.  But this particular fella seemed he was in need of an adjustment
to his driving manners. I punched into 2nd gear and drove around him so fast
he never knew what happened. By the time he realized where I was, I heard
him down shift and put a little rubber on the road, but by then it was to
late I was by him heading out onto the highway in 3rd and he was far behind.
I never saw him again after that but I'll say one thing, and that is that
you can't beat the bang for the buck you get from our modded VW's no matter
what they say!  Now I'm not saying go out there and challenge an M3, I'm
sure the driver I went by had smoke between the ears and he seemed really
intent on pissing somebody off. But if that's the kind of person who buys an
M3 let him line up and put down his money, he's gonna get smoked by my VW!
Now believe me I have a lot of respect for the M3 I have a friend,a former
VW GTI V16 driver, who has one and it's an awesome car - when driven
properly. BTW he's thinking of selling the car for a VR6 GTI because he
thinks the M3 is not as smooth as the GTI VR6, if you can believe it and
that really surprised me. I was also surprised that I would tackle an M3 if
someone pissed me off enough, but this guy deserved it! I had been wanting
to post this incident to the list for a while but I didn't because I didn't
want to encourage racing on public roads. Don't discount the performance of
our modded VW's they are worth every cent.

I know this will stir up some more comments and flames perhaps but there's
my 2 cents.
