hehehe.... I got the info from h&r themselves.  H&R has designed the spring where it is not really a progressive spring, nor a linear one, but acts like a progressive.  you would have to talk to them personally to *really* understand.  I am not good at tech talk.  the bottom coils are called *dead springs(or coils)* because they do support weight but they do not effect spring rate.  you would not waste money on cutting them, as long as you cut the dead coils it will not effect lifetime guarantee, spring rate, or ride quality.....
that is the H&R magic....as you might know I am doing a group purchase on them if you want some....8)
