Re: wind noise (and squeaks)



Just to reiterate what's already been said.....

Wind noise is minimal on A3's (less than '90-'97 Passats) and if there is
any, it is most likely due to a missing body plug on the underside of the
car.  You can crawl on the ground and check out your car like the other
Chris did or you can just take it in.  The hardest part is getting the
correct plug.  The dealer may have a bulletin that details what holes should
be plugged and the part numbers for the appropriate plugs.

Door squeaks are common (both Jettas, '94 and '97, in my family were
afflicted), but easily and cheaply fixed, for the most part.  Take a look at
Don's page about the isolation tape and write the part number down (so the
parts guy knows exactly what you're talking about).  The tape is kind of
like thick scotch tape.  Put it along the inside top edges of the doors
where the doors, when closed (duh), meet the roof mouldings.  The roll
(about 6" more than needed to do a 4dr) costs something like $3.  It works.
