Quick oil question

What weight oil should I use in my VR6?  I'll be using petroleum based
this time around...
I'm in the midwest if you want to get into climate differences.

Also, if anyone has the filter part no. on hand for an 8-96  '97, I
would appreciate it (just to make sure the parts guy gave me the right
one).

BTW, I asked my service advisor what weight oil *they* put in the cars
and he didn't know -- shouldn't they know things like that?
