check with Imparts Inc., (800) 325-9043, they carry a sunshield
specifically designed for the Jettas 
('94 - '98).  If they claim that they don't have one listed for a '97 or
'98 Jetta, ask them to look up the sunshade for a '95 Jetta.  It is made
of fabric and folds (4" - 5" wide) into its own carrying bag.  The
sunshield is costly but well worth it.
