bilsteins are like the best shocks you can get.....the main difference between the hd's and sports is that the sports have a shorter shaft(so you can ride lower..) the sports are gased a little harder that the hd's BUT the hd rear (i think, correct if wrong) for the a3 are gased the same as the sports...so you can go with the hd's and will be just fine.....i would never suggest running stock shocks w/ aftermarket springs.....if you push your car  hard, you might get an enexpected result in a turn or something that might lead to some car/and or pride damage...
