RE: Thanks! (WAS:Re: How do you get rid

One other recommendation-

I believe I read this somewhere on Jan's VW Racing page (great site!),
someone mentioned that, believe it or not, your towels could be the cause
of swirl marks on your car. If you use any kind of fabric softener when
cleaning towels, this causes swirl marks. Make sure then that you do not
use any fabric softeners on any of the towels you use to wax the car, and
you should be swirl-free.

Hey folks,

Thanks to the many people that helped me out with detailing tips and
suggestions of how to get rid of those damn swirl marks.

I went with Mequiar's Cleaner and Polish before waxing with 3M Show
Car Wax. Man the 3M stuff is great! Took me the better part
of a day but my car has never looked better. The swirls/towel marks
are almost completely gone and the black finish is deep and damn
glossy.

On a side note, I figured out what was causing the marks. I am
always careful washing my car and was perplexed for a while there as
to why I was getting these marks. Well I had another good day at the
dealer (another story) and was in the service dept talking to one of
the techs. Outside of the service bay, some high school kid was
washing a brand new Passat. It was like an assembly line. The car
would roll in and the kid would hose it off. Then he'd take this
broom handle with a large green brush on the end and wash the car.
Then he'd hose it off and the next car would be rolled in. Without
changing water or anything, he'd start washing the next car!
Ya so some guy's 4x4 is washed just before mine.......never again.

Advice....if you care about how your car looks, don't let the dealer
wash your car after servicing.

Cheers and thanks again!
