Re: Euro Switch & High Beams

Hi Guys,

Chuck Marshall is absolutely correct in his assessment that the Euro
Switch does not allowing both the low and high beams to be on at the
same time on Jetta headlights. The dual filament in the Jetta bulb
cannot handle the excessive heat, whereas on the GTi the hi and lo beams
use a separate single filament bulb. On GTi's it is possible to have
the low and high beams on at the same time increasing visibility. The
following is from European Car, Project GLX dated March 1996. "Use a
clip in #10 relay posistion to allow the foglamps to go on with the
switch in either parking light or headlamps low or high beam position.
Additionally, use a second clip which allows all four bulbs to stay on.
The second clip goes in the #10 relay position connecting a second pair
of contacts and is a Nuespeed exclusive." The Project GLX vehicle had
swapped out the factory headlights for a set of GTi headlights.

Hope this helps,

David Kim
