That was a bit over the top.  Although i'd agree with you in most cases,
the pure fact of the matter is that not all of us have a: garages or b:
the proper tools to do that kind of work in.  Let alone the fact that
for many of us, our cars are our ONLY cars, and we can't afford to have
it screwed up, not able to drive, esp. if we suddenly discover that we
need to go get a part that was missing.

Personally, i get my mechanic, who i've gone to great pains to befriend,
to do ALL my major mods.  Pretty much for the reasons i stated above. 
He's good, he's fairly cheap, and he does a good job, simply because he
knows that i'm going to be bringing him business over and over again. 
And, stupid as it sounds, i typically overpay him slightly, in cash. 
It's a wonder how far pure cash transactions will go.  :)

Never EVER underestimate the value of a good relationship with your
mechanic.
