NEW CD CHANGER OPTION!!!

Hi GLX fans,

I have an early 1997 GLX that did NOT come with the BOSE audio package.
Instead, I paid $375 less for the automobile and received the standard,
VW-premium AM/FM/CASSETTE manufactured by Clarion.

I have always wanted to add a CD changer to my car and decided to do so
this week. I wanted to add the Clarion, 6-CD, trunk-mounted changer that VW
sells for over $500. This is MUCH less expensive in the real world.

There were always two options for GLX owners wanting to go this route...
the CLARION 605 or the updated 635 model. The run $245 and $280
respectively from Crutchfield. You also need a cable harness that the same
vender offers for $20.

I contacted many mail order houses and even Clarion directly. Finally, I
checked out the local Clarion authorized dealers. It seems that most places
offer these units at full retail cost... i.e., NO DISCOUNTS! I did find a
local, authorized shop that did indeed discount the 635 about $25. They
also did a free install if the unit was bought from them... (one other
salesman quoted me $10), but they offer ONLY a premium cable harness for
$35 which uses gold connecters, heavy cable, etc.

**** NOW THE IMPORTANT STUFF ****
When I went to have my CD installed yesterday, they had sold sold out of
the cable, so I'll have to wait a few days, but the CD I got was the new,
634 model WHICH IS 100% COMPATIBLE!!! It has only two less features than
the 635 (8X sampling & initial "zero bit" detection), but sells BRAND NEW
FOR $199!!!

Soon, I will cruising with the 634. I heard one there and they sound
fantastic.
The slight difference in the two, top-end models is virtually
insignificant. These devices seem far superior to their FM-radio coupled
counterparts which lose top end frequency response and are now priced
competitively to them.

I think you'd enjoy this unit. I'm very excited to be having it installed
in my GLX soon. Finally, the total price for my CD AND installation will be
about $237. The breakdown of costs as follows:

Clarion 634 Changer $212 (includes PA 6% sales tax)
VW adapter cable $25 (They let me supply my own since they were out!)
Installation $0 (courtesy SOS Audio - "Sounds of Success")
699 Pennsylvania Ave, MONACA, PA 15061
                            phone 412-728-7510

Folks, I don't think you can beat it and I've done my homework. You are
more than welcome to take advantage of those efforts.

Regards,
Thom
