Rear Fog Light

GLX'ers,

I know there has been some talk about a rear fog light socket
present in the rear tail light assembly.  Having never seen fog
lights on the rear of a car before I thought I'd ask the list:

What is the purpose of a rear fog light?  Also, when is the rear 
fog supposed to be lit....when the front fogs are switched on?  
when switched on and with the break pedal depressed?

Anyone seen a rear fog in operation on a Euro spec'd car?
