Hiya Chris. I have a 97 GLX like you. No the chip is NOT soldered in.
You just pop it out and pop the new one in. As far as chips are
concerned I would consider the following two ONLY.
1. P-Chip. This is what I have and I like it. Much better than stock.
2. Garrett Chip. From everything that everyone has told me this chip
just totally rocks.
Note: In the next few days a list member is comparing the stock chip,
to the garrett chip, to the p-chip. We will see what the results are.
