RE: I be Gettin a Jetta GLX

  <<<<<
  This will be a lease.
It will be a '98 Jetta GLX w/evey option but the 6 disk changer.
  >>>>>

i have a 95 GLX w/o a changer or automatic and talked my dealer down to
$200 over invoice.

<<<<<
He says that the going price will be 23k, he wants 1k down, first
months payment($300), security deposit($325), and an Aquasition fee? (I
think that is what he called it) of about $600.
This will be the first lease that I have ever done, so I'm not too
sure if these costs are absoluty un-avoidable. He says though that this
will put my payment right at $300@month, which is were I need it.
>>>>>

is the $300 a month including taxes? In MO. there is a lease (usage ?) tax
on all leased cars, its something like 7.5%, if so, your payments may be
around $322.

I was going to lease a 98 Vovlo V70 T5 and almost did it because i got the
dealer to get the payments down from $560 to near what my payments are on
my GLX, eat the down payment, security deposit and then defer the acquis
ition fee till the end of the year. the payments were $388 + taxes ($417
total) for 36 months, not bad for a $39k car. you should make the dealer
work for you instead of taking what he gives you. tell him you going to
shop around (make him sweat)

<<<<<
Oh and my lease term will be 36 months w/12k miles a year, but I will
pay the extra to have 15k a year.
Though I wonder if 15k miles will actually be needed if I plan on
getting into another lease when this one is up.
Does anyone know if the dealer will atack you if your miles are over
the 12k a year, and you plan on leasing a new car?
>>>>>

buy extra miles ahead of time, it's cheaper to buy miles before than it is
after. even if you think you are going to buy the car after the lease buy
miles because you may change your mind on keeping the car, 3 years from now
it will be 2000 and you may see something else to drive.

<<<<<
One other question. I'm not too worried about the relibility of a VW,
(I've herd some horror stories). It can't be worse than the Dodge Neon
I currantly own. I was wondering if someone could give me a run down of
the most comon quirks that the Jetta may have?
>>>>>

i haven't had any real problem (knock on wood) just the fan recall, door
molding falling off, and the exhaust hitting a cross beam, other than that
the car has been great. I might sell my GLX and get a 95 M3 that my
brother has on his lot or this 89 911 that i saw the other day.

hope this helps,

Don

ps. anyone want to buy a 95 GLX? ;-)
